31 Nights of Halloween: Me and Me

Me and Me (2021)
Starring: Yuki Shinyokoyama
Director: Yuki Shinyokoyama
Rating: Seven of Ten Stars

A man (Shinykoyama) keeps having encounters with a man who looks just like him.

During the "off-season" this past year, we introduced visitors to the short ghost movies of filmmaker and artist Yuki Shinyokoyama. We think this non-ghost film is one of his best yet (as well as a nice upping-of-the-ante on the doppelganger myths.

We hope you enjoy "Me and Me"... and that you may avoid your doppelgangers during these 31 Nights of Halloween!

31 Nights of Halloween: The Doppelganger

A scene from "The Doppelganger" (2021)

We feel this is the perfect treat for our visitors on this, the second of the 31 Nights of Halloween. It's the tale of a man who has his peaceful evening alone at home interrupted by... himself!

(We also felt it was okay to that a trick came along with the treat... we hope you agree!)

2/22/22 -- Return of the Doppelganger

It's the second day of twos, so we're bringing you another short film featuring a doppelganger. More specifically, we're bringing you a short film featuring a doppelganger again. (We first featured this excellent Drew Daywalt chiller on October 31, 2012.)

As is fitting, there are two ways to interpret the events that unfold during the film. We'll leave it up to you to figure out what the two interpretations may be. But you're welcome to use the Comments section below to share them with the world.

2/2/22 -- Day of the Doppelgängers!

We present the second film of the Day of the Doppelgangers! Enjoy the spookiness!

Reflection (2020)
Starring: Bianca Bradey
Director: Heath C. Michaels
Rating: Eight of Ten Stars

A woman (Bradey) must fight for her very existence when her reflection escapes from a mirror.

Bianca Bradey in "Reflection"

"Reflection" begins weird and dreamlike and quickly turns terrifyingly nightmarish. I love the sciencey aspect that creeps into the supernatural in this picture--as well as the fact that the nameless main character deals with this impossible situation as intelligently as possible.

Enjoy this no-budget short film... that is better than any number of big-budget pictures (be they short-films or feature-length) I can think of.

2/2/22--Day of the Doppelgangers!

Orion Smith in 'Doppelganger'

We turn to writer/director Alex Magana for the perfect short film with which to observe this auspicious date, 2/2/22. He delivers his usual offbeat chills... and he once again makes us wish for a sequel/continuation! (I can imagine at least two more chapters to this little horror saga.)

Starring: Orion Smith and Abigail Blythe
Director: Alex Magana

31 Nights of Halloween: Unanswered

"Unanswered" is worth checking out, because it has a couple of nice twists, even if the main character has a touch of that ever-present horror movie ailment, Plot-Dictated Stupidity. However, it's also so well acted and filmed that I can't bring myself to make snide comments about the ponytail that's almost on the top of the lead character's head. (Oh... wait... Whoops...)

Enjoy tonight's chiller! The night of ultimate darkness is almost here, as we are entering the final week of this year's 31 Nights of Halloween!

Unanswered (2016)
Starring: Zachary Loewen and Kellen Ray
Director: Nils Kimmel

31 Nights of Halloween: Closet Space

Here's a film from a creative team that was featured several times during last year's 31 Nights of Halloween mini-film fright festival. I think they topped themselves with this one. (Lotta's streak of bad luck continues...)

Starring: Lotta Losten and David F. Sandberg

31 Nights of Halloween: The Little Witch

The days are getting shorter, the air is getting chill. The monsters and goblins are definitely gathering in the shadows, preparing for their Big Night... so you might want to start checking under not just your child's bed, but your own as well.

But let's hope you don't find what the father in tonight's horror short film does....

In other bewitching, Halloween-related news, my latest game design effort for the d20 System is out. Titled "Secrets of the Witchkind," it's a neat supplement that introduces a new, highly magical player character race to your games. The book contains character generation rules, details on the unique way  the witchkind casts spells, and feats and talents to further augment their magic. It's all behind a great cover by Bradley K. McDevitt. which echoes the TV show that inspired the creation of the witchkind--"Betwitch."

"Secrets of the Witchkind" is sure to bring a little Halloween spirit to your gaming table. The book is available at RPGNow and DriveThruRPG. Click here to see previews or to get your own copy.

31 Nights of Halloween: Me Myself and I

A couple years ago, it seemed like I ended up with lots of shorts with a "babysitter in trouble" theme when picking what to include in the 31 Nights of Halloween mini-film festival. This year, doppelgangers seem to be showing up a lot.

Take tonight's offering as an example....

31 Nights of Halloween: That's Not Me

It's October, 2016.. and it's time for another mini-film fest here at Terror Titans. Every night from now until the Big Night of Halloween, there'll be a bite-sized chiller for you to enjoy, and none of them will be longer than 15 minutes! Our second offering this year is a tale of domestic bliss gone scary. There's a tiny bit of overproduction going on here, but Lyles freaky and freaked-out performance makes up for it!

That's Not Me (2016)
Starring: Shantel Lyles and William Watson
Director: Melvin Johnson
